CyRise is an investor, supporter and champion of cyber security startups in the Asia Pacific.
We're a Melbourne based cyber security venture accelerator. Funded by NTT and Deakin University, we offer a 3-month accelerator program for cyber security startup founders, along with week-long bootcamps, community events and ongoing founder support.
Scott’s a serial founder who’s been helping to drive Melbourne’s startup ecosystem for many years. Since 2008 he's been Cofounder and CEO for Eventarc and Attendly, as well as cofounding Startup Victoria, the biggest founder-focused non-profit in the country. He also spent five years as a mentor and member of the investment committee for Angelcube, Melbourne’s first venture accelerator.
Kirstin has spent her career traversing the globe in Business Development and Corporate Partnership roles. Her journey to CyRise has come via a food startup in Australia, corporate partnership roles in the UK, market entry in Europe, steel marketing in China and investment analysis in Singapore. Kirstin holds an MBA from IMD in Switzerland and is a co-founder of a charity in the UK.
Experienced start-up founder with a demonstrated history of working in the digital marketing and education industry. Skilled in startup strategy, operations, business development, VC fund-raising, search marketing and advertising. Strong entrepreneurship back ground with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Hons.
Ron Moritz is a well-regarded cybersecurity industry executive with 30+ years of broad operational, strategy and P&L experience. He has served as a member of the corporate or cybersecurity business unit leadership teams at premier Fortune 500 technology companies Microsoft, Symantec, and CA Technologies, and as CTO of Finjan Software. Ron is also an internationally recognised expert on cyber-crime and cyber-warfare. He’s perfectly placed to help elevate the product and execution of our CyRise founders during his placement as EiR at CyRise.
Tony Glenning, Board Chair
Tony is the fund manager at Skalata Ventures. helping early stage companies prepare to scale and grow into significant and sustainable businesses. For 7.5 years prior to that, he was an investment director at Starfish Ventures, a Melbourne-based technology venture capital firm. Before this role, Tony spent 14 years in Silicon Valley within the tech industry. He has extensive experience as a founder and CEO at two startups with successful exits (Tonic Systems, Cameron Systems) and has worked in product development roles at Google and Sun Microsystems. Tony holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Hons) and a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) from the University of Melbourne, and a Master's of Electrical Engineering from Stanford University
John Karabin, Board Member
John is the Director of Cybersecurity for NTT Australia Ltd. In this role, he is responsible for the overall security business in Australia, reporting to both the national executive team as well as the global CEO for Cybersecurity. With over 25 years’ experience working with start-ups through to multinationals over many geographies including the US, Europe, Asia and Australia he has developed broad experience in bringing together technology and business in a trusted, secure and resilient manner. He has a Graduate Diploma in Technology Management from Deakin University, and a Bachelor of Engineering, Electronics and Computing Science from Curtin University.
Virginie Hoareau, Board Member
Virginie Hoareau is currently the Executive Director (Research) at Deakin University. With over 20 years of financial and leadership experience, she provides leadership and operational management to the research office, as well as contributing strategically to the Division and broader University. Her career has spanned the financial, health, media & entertainment and higher education sectors. Her experience co-founding a start-up in the early years of her career, followed by consulting for local accounting firms, has contributed to her strong business acumen. Virginie is a member of CPA Australia and holds an undergraduate degree and MBA from Deakin University.
Ben Spincer, Board Advisor
Since 2015, Ben’s worked as Director Research – Commercial at Deakin University, a role that follows Directorships in Technology, Strategy and Innovation, and Investor Relations with Telstra. He’s also worked with the likes of Credit Suisse and Informa as part of a career that’s focused heavily on technology strategy.
